Houses for a golf weekend

A golf trip for 12 needs a house near the courses, enough bathrooms for everyone to shower at the same time, and a decent sitting room for the evening. It does not need a games room; the game is the point.

200 houses match, sleeping 10 to 20, from £646 a week. Showing the first 48; use a region page to narrow it down.

Organiser's notes

This page shows houses sleeping 10 to 20 in the regions with the courses: Fife for St Andrews and the East Neuk, the Highlands for Dornoch and Nairn, the Cairngorms and Perthshire for Gleneagles, Northumberland, the Lancashire coast for Birkdale and Lytham, Kent for Sandwich and Deal, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall, Norfolk, Argyll, Dumfries and Galloway, and the Surrey, Hampshire and Cheshire heathland courses. Eight to 16 is the usual group, so we cap it at 20.

Distance to the first tee. The region is a rough guide. Use the map link on the property page and check the actual drive to the course before you book. Twenty minutes is fine; fifty minutes with four cars is a bad start to the day.

Bathrooms. Twelve men, one tee time, two bathrooms. Count them. Three or more for twelve is comfortable.

Club storage. A hallway for twelve sets of clubs and trolleys, or a garage, is worth asking about. A house with a utility room or boot room usually has somewhere.

Mixed abilities and non-golfers. If partners are coming, look for a house near a town or with something to do. A hot tub does not hurt.

Food. Golf groups eat out more than most, so a big kitchen matters less than being near a pub that takes a table of 12. Book that before you book the house; in a village in Fife in July it is the harder reservation.

Minimum stay. Three nights is typical for a golf weekend. Scottish houses outside summer are flexible; English coastal houses in summer often want seven.

Money. Collect the house deposit early and the green fees separately. Someone always wants to play one round fewer than everyone else, and that is simpler if the two pots are kept apart.

Celebrations. Some golf trips are a 50th in disguise. If there is a dinner and speeches, say so when you enquire; see the party houses page for houses that welcome celebrations.
